DDIY (Don't Do It Yourself) Haircut

Stephen Small was in need of a haircut. He was looking a little Jungle Boy-esque. I thought to myself "I'll just do this myself. I've done it before. Let's give it a whirl."

I reviewed how to cut boys hair on a few websites.

Then I gathered my scissors, a comb, and a jar of water. I set him up in the highchair and turned on on a little Curious George. And I started clipping. He was slightly squirmy, but for the most part it was really going well.

And then oops - one snip too short in the front.

So I did what was only natural and continued to chop away.

Yikes!

I'm not a perfectionist and I'm not a very picky person. Those two qualities came in handy in this situation.

It's just hair.

Good thing he's only two because he doesn't give a darn.

Secretly I think he's really proud of it.

I suspect this because his excitement escalated to a significantly high level.

This is what I call a Don't Do IT Yourself haircut.

  1. SB, that is hysterical. I gave Porter a haircut right before Paul was born and it did not turn out very well either. Every time I see one of his "big brother" pictures it makes me never want to give another homemade haircut again:) I need to check out some of those websites.

  4. Haha! You are so brave. :) I am SO much of a perfectionist that I don't think I would even attempt it. I should probably start saving money now in case I have a boy someday. I will just have to pay for lots of haircuts!

  5. He is adorable. Somewhere I have a photo of you when you styled your own hair. (As a kid, you were a determined DIY stylist with clothes, hair, and others.) You were precious and so is he!

  7. It's so cute. Had you not told me, I'd never have guessed it was an "at home" cut. I think just the fact he sat STILL long enough for you to cut is worth being happy over!

  8. Um, yeah, I know the feeling. I had to rush everyone to the closest barber (20 minutes away) praying I would make it there before they closed to fix my buzzed mess. I actually thought S.S. looked cute in his pictures!
