My Baby's Bow

I'm at home this Sunday morning waiting for church to come on the radio. Crazy to think 6 weeks ago I went into labor....on a Sunday morning much like today. Since it has been since 6 weeks, I think it's time to take down the blue bow off our front door. It has survived many many many rainstorms. But even more impressive, it has been the object of a crime. Our special bow was taken off of our hospital door, room # 420. Who steals a baby's bow? What sick person takes something at a time like that? It is like having your house robbed during a funeral. You see, I made a pink bow and a blue bow about 2 weeks before Stephen was born. I did not want one of those cheap-o bows you can buy in the hospital gift shop. I wanted a handmade bow for my little boy (or girl).

So the story goes like this...The last night of our hospital stay, Stephen (daddy) walked me and baby Stephen by the nursery and we dropped him off. Feeling a little guilty about leaving him in the the florescent lit nursery with 14+ screaming babies, I told the nurses to bring him to my room if he cried or needed anything. I was hoping to get some quality rest and Stephen (daddy) went home to do the same. I walked back to my room and eased myself onto the hospital bed. It wasn't 30 minutes before I hear Stephen's little cry coming down the hall. My nurse (and friend) tapped on the door, wheeled him in, and said "he's acting hungry." I nursed him, walked him back to the nursery, stopped by the snack room to get some milk, went back to my room, ate a cupcake, and attempted to sleep. But my neighbors in room #418 were so loud. They must have had 10 people in there. It was midnight. WHAT were they all doing in there at this hour? Since being a nurse I have realized that people only get weirder. It is quite common for people to have numerous loud visitors at all hours. Stephen and I had commented on this group earlier and how rowdy they were.

Finally, I doze off for the first time. Here come the wheels again, along with Stephen's cry, and a cute quivering bottom lip. I feed him again and then try the nursery one more time. On the way back to my room I pass a man (a visitor from 418) who mumbles a question to me. In my Percocet haze I heard him say "Is that your baby?" Weird question I thought. Stephen wasn't with me and so I figured he was referring to the baby crying loudly in room#421. "No," I said. Now I believe he was asking "Is that your bow?" because after we go through our routine for the third time...crying, feeding, back to the nursery...I find the door bow-less. What the in the world! If someone here doesn't fess up, the redneck in me is going to come out and start knocking on doors. I am one mad mama. I'm the one who went to Michaels (twice)! I'm the one who bought the expensive ribbon! I'm the one who made that bow. It was MY baby's bow and I wanted it back. I ask the nurse "Have you seen someone take the bow off my door?" She said "No, who would do such a thing?" A light goes off in her head. She then says "I bet you anything it was the people in 418."

So Nurse Leigh stomps into #418 and sure enough there hangs Baby boy Spooner's bow on an IV pole. Leigh asked "Who's bow is that?" A visitor in the patients room says "I made it." LIAR. Big fat LIAR.
Leigh says "No you did not. The patient in room #420 is a nurse here. She made that bow so I'm gonna have to take it back." BUSTED. Crime doesn't pay my friends. I was SO glad to get it back. I wanted to cry when I saw Leigh walking out of room # 418 with the bow in her hands. We brought it home the next morning and proudly hung it on our front door.

Organized

Since the changing of seasons and in my cases, sizes, my closets and drawers have been out of sorts. So, yesterday I took on the chore of organizing all my clothes. I started by getting out everything and then assigned it to one of these categories....things I wear everyday, too small, fall/winter, T-shirts, and maternity.

Next, I put the things I'm not wearing into storage boxes.

These clear storage boxes are the best. It is nice to see through them so when it's 85 degrees on Thanksgiving day, you can easily find a weather appropriate outfit instead of turning your wardrobe upside down.

Then, I took on the closet. I LOVE matching hangers. It makes the closet look cleaner and its easier to find things. The ones pictured are from Target. They are thin, fuzzy, and have a nice curvy shape so it won't leave an annoying indention in your sleeve.

Moving on to t-shirts.... If you are like me you have dozens taking up all your drawer space even though you only wear a few. I took the shirts I actually wear and folded them neatly in a drawer. The rest I put in a storage box.

Making more space for real clothes and my modest bathing suit...

And look who was in the middle of it all! He got a little bored with this project towards the end.

So we rewarded ourselves with a stroll when Daddy got home.

Double Digits and the Last Supper

We've hit the double digits! Stephen weighed 10 lbs, 10 oz at his one month check up. I love my BIG boy!

Also, tonight was the last night meals were brought to us by our wonderful friends! The beautiful chef salad pictured below was my "last supper." This and a cold diet coke...mmm. I didn't even wait on Stephen to eat it. Thank you friends for all the great food!

Happy Anniversary

Stephen and I have been married 3 years today! However, we have known each other for much longer...almost 10 years...wow that's a long time. This picture was taken on our first date in the summer of 2000. We didn't officially become a couple until many years after that summer, but it is CRAZY to think that the sparks were flying at age 17(me) and 19(Stephen).

Happy Anniversary Stephen! I love you.

Daddy's Old Clothes

(Big) Stephen's mom saved several of his newborn outfits and recently passed them down to us. We have had fun dressing baby Stephen in these cool vintage clothes. And I think you can tell by his expression...he's had fun too!

Thank You J.Crew

I often have said I was born in the wrong era. While I don't wish to have witnessed the Great Depression, WWII, or even live in a time without so many modern coveniences such as cell phones or dishwashers, there is something about the 1920's-1950's that intrigues me. Let me share my top 10 list of some old timey things I love...

1. bottled cokes
2. no computers
2. land lines
3. drugs stores (the kind where you can sit down and order a hamburger and a milkshake)
4. smaller furniture (as opposed to the oversized kind now made for giants that would not even fit through the front door of our 1950's built home)
5. not knowing if you are expecting a boy or girl baby
6. a less litigious society
7. fur coats (still see a lot of these in Montgomery-love them though I don't own one)
8. front porches
9. snail mail
10. MODEST SWIM SUITS!!!

How cute do these ladies look...running on the beach in their bathing suit! When did we steer away from this style? They all look so comfortable.

I have a special appreciation for a more modest swim suit this year since I have a post 8lb 15oz baby body. I'm still hanging on to a little tummy and I don't think it is going away anytime real soon. Also, I think enough people (medical professionals) have seen my upper upper thighs this year. They need no more exposure. It is hard to feel good in my regular clothes much less a bathing suit. When pregnant and post-pregnant, your body is just not your own. And that is exactly why I bought this bathing suit... a tankini with a skirt! Thank you J.Crew!

I've seen cocktail dresses in the Grove with less material than this.

News Worthy

I have a "news" worthy story. Baby Stephen and I were asked to make an appearance on a local news station to promote Jackson Hospital's mother/baby center. When I was first asked to do this I FREAKED OUT. I don't speak in public. I don't even like to be on a home video.

In the end, I agreed to do it. We (my boss and I) had a short interview on the 12:00 news WAKA, channel 8. Thankfully she did most of the talking. I was asked one question which I don't even remember now. I was more focused on making sure Stephen behaved....and he did. He was perfect, awake, and didn't make a peep throughout the entire 3 minute segment.

Then only people I know that saw the show were my sister and her entire 7th grade math class.
Although it took us all morning to prepare for this event and the whole afternoon to recover...it was fun.

Here's a pic I took on our way to the studio.
